Is it time to replace your old computer? If you are in the market for a new laptop or desktop, talk to us first! We will help you find what’s best for your needs and budget, transfer data from your old computer, and set up your new computer the way you want it.
Let’s be honest – there are so many places to buy computers from. Nelson City alone has Noel Leeming, Harvey Norman, Warehouse Stationery, and Smiths City – not to mention dozen online shops. Sometimes you can get a pretty good deal there but more often than not, you will be left disappointed.
Most places that sell computers don’t really know much about them. They won’t ask you what your needs are, what programs you use, what features you require. They will have a few popular models that promise you “blistering performance”, “enhanced productivity”, and “unparalleled power and speed” but none of those claims are usually true. Most computers sold in retail shops suffer from cheap plastic designs, under-performing components, ancient technology hard drives, and low reliability.
Their goal is to sell you something that will last the usual one-year warranty period and not much longer. Have you ever noticed that your new laptop from a store doesn’t actually feel any faster than the one you just replaced? Well, there are many reasons for that – we wrote an article on Why You Shouldn’t Buy Cheap Windows Laptops.
More expensive laptops aren’t that much better either. Often, retail shops sell unsold inventory from several years ago and while you may thing you are getting a great deal on sale, the computer you just bought was an under-performer two years ago and it still is! Don’t believe us? Go to any local shop and you will see plenty of computers based on AMD processors like A4, A6 and A8. These were released over two years ago and haven’t improved much since 2012. In the meantime, AMD released new processors called Ryzen that are night and day compared to old ones.
So, how to you choose the right laptop or desktop for your needs? Something that will perform the way you expect a new computer to run and will last for many years? Talk to us! After we consider your budget and needs, we can order a better built and faster computer from our distribution network. We prefer to sell business grade computers that are built to last and can be purchased with up to four years of warranty. That’s right!
We can usually get brand new computers delivered to us the next day. Once we receive it, we can transfer your data, reinstall programs you need, and then deliver it to your home, office, or shop, connect all the cords, and make sure everything runs well.
You may think those computers cost much more? Not really. The initial purchase price might be a few hundred dollars more but you will save thousands over computer’s lifetime. Remember the famous quote by Terry Pratchett?
“The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.
Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.
But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that’d still be keeping his feet dry in ten years’ time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet.”
We understand that not everyone can afford to spend over $1500 on a brand new computer and actually, not everyone even needs one. You should then consider buying a refurbished computer. You can actually buy a decent business grade laptop for as low as $500! They will have better materials, stronger cases, faster performance and will last longer than a comparable consumer grade laptop for the same price. The downside is usually lower battery life, boxy looks, and lesser warranty. However – the cheapest refurbished computers we sell come with three month warranty and the more expensive one come with one year warranty – same as most new computers!
